Two girls in leather and one in a trench coat
Climbing to the top of the Santa Fe train
Hope we don't fall off before we get there
And slip off the side in our quest for fame
Backed by barbed wire
And the scrap metal yard
Surrounded by weeds and the graffitied walls
Walking amid summer's last sunflowers
Stepping underneath the Kellogg overpass
Right down the street
From the artists' warehouse
Maybe it'll lend these poets some class
It's a way of life to those who choose it
And I hope I never lose it
And if we should stumble
And if we should fall
Would you stand there laughing?
Or would you say you used to know us all
If we made it happen?
Standing underneath a cold October sky
I could go for some coffee
From Bohemian Bean
Taking more photos in front of a mural
Standing on the stage
We got three dollars apiece
We're in the picture, thanks to Kim
We hear ourselves clearer, thanks to Jim
Sitting on the couches
With the punks with their pink hair
Trying to figure out what we want it to say
How do we get the message through
And what do we have left to do
Maybe we should call it a day
