Leaf
Words & Music bySheela Reddy

There's carving everywhere on the deck
People's names and messages engraved deep into the wood
As I walk away from this deck, leaves are falling like there's no tomorrow
Except for one, that seems to he hanging on for its life
It's like a suicide of someone who's so, so confused
"Do I do it, or do I keep on living?"
It's calm around and no one else is here
And I wonder
Is that what it's like when suicide victims do it?

The sun rises a little bit more and the leaf's still dangling
The crew team passes under, making noise, and waves and thunder
Birds are chirping, cars are running
It's like everyone and everything is showing disrespect to this leaf
It's like a suicide of someone who's so, so confused
"Am I really needed is this world or am I just another figure?"
"How will I ever know?"
I look up again and the leaf has disappeared I guess
I'll never know now
And I wonder, yes, I wonder, is that what it's like?
Is that what it's like when suicide victims do it?

It spins in the wind
With the sun right behind it
Why is it hanging on?
Does it not want to fall and float away in the freezing cold water?
